It is in the French Alps, in the Tarentaise Valley, Savoie, Rhône-Alpes region near Grenoble. It is a part of Les Trois Vallées, the largest linked ski area in the world. The closest ski access is 150m / 3 minutes within walking distance (just cross the road) 8-minute drive to Courchevel centre and 5mn ride with the telecabin to La Croisette (tourism office building) • Air Alpes - Aerosavoie, Courchevel Airport (CVF) : 9km • Moûtiers : 25 km • Chambery : 100 km • Chamonix - Mont Blanc: 116km • Grenoble : 129 km • Airport: Geneva :190 km • Lyon : 187 km (2h00) • Nice : 550 km (5h00) • Paris : 600 km (5h30) The name Courchevel comes from a local agricultural practice. Sheperds took care not to let calves graze in Courchevel 1500 area where the thick grass scratched their tongues. In Saint-Bon patois it was called « écortzevé » and the word became Courchevel.
